Feedback required

#1239

Post by fugglefeet »

Hi all,

I have been looking at using different forum software and have setup a parallel forum here:-

forum

I would like feedback about the look and feel of the software, with the intent to migrate the forum to the new look with a majority concensus from the members. A lot of behind the scenes features that we currently have are also available on the new software (Anti-Spam, etc).

I know you are doing your best but wasn't happy with "php" from the beginning. I am also not up to date
with all the other softwares but believe that you know better.

Thanks again for all your work and keeping the forum alive.

Regards.

Yeah, I agree with dasilvarsa. There's nothing wrong with the current forum so why change?

Hi all,

Thanks for the feedback thus far. I am going to keep the other one running in the background as a backup (for just in case).

I know that there will always be resistance to change. I say if there is little to choose between the two we stay with the current one. If the new software is far superior to what we have we should consider changing.

I don't normally have much to say on these forums, but I check them almost daily. I have to agree with Jan though, if the software is better then change. The spam thing is something to think about. I have just had to reload my laptop because of it.

Would all the posts on the furum be lost ?
Would all links to this forum posted elsewhere be lost or become dead links ?

Joe like when GF changed to the new software, no posts will be lost and I don't think any links will be lost either. Darryl is better equipped to give you an answer on that though. I know that the spam measures are superior. Spam on this forum is not that serious a problem yet. We ban and delete about 10 spammers per week, that is apart from those that the system prevent from registering.

Hi Joe and Jan,

Fortunately, all forum software that is available on the internet, does have a conversion utility to extract the information to the new forum software ( that includes forums, topics, posts, PMs, users and associated passwords ). The only thing that will need scrutiny is the relevant permissions for administrators, moderators and contributors. There will also need to be a bit of editing done to the forum (due to differences in the default unicodes used by the various forums).

The link to the forum is maintained by the webserver software configuration file. Links to this forum that are posted on other forums will unfortunately become dead links, due to the change in the forum software and structure.
