GPSmap 60CSx
GPSmap 60CSx
Greetings to Shorty, Pezulu, Metro Nomad from forum 'old boy' RobF. Been a long time. Hope you're all well. Have a question. Should know the answer, but don't. So here's the question. A friend gave me a virtually unused GPSMap 60CSx first registered under his name about six years ago (I completed the original registration for him). Unit still loaded with one of the early maps. (A) How do I transfer the unit to my name, or preferably update the firmware and maps under his name and registration (we're friends). (B) Is it worth updating the unit to a recent Garmap map? If so how much would it cost? Thanks guys.

Re: GPSmap 60CSx
Hi Rob and welcome!
Must be telepathy as I was wondering about your whereabouts a week or so ago when I noticed in the the other forum that your number of posts were still about 2nd highest, but I were gaining on you. Unfortunately they pulled the plug before I could pass.
A) You could ask Garmap to transfer the unit and its registered maps to your name (or get your friend to do it, if they don't believe you.
)
Firmware can be updated by connecting to the internet and running WebUpdater.
To update the maps under his name would require his Username and Password.
B) The answer to whether it would be worthwhile to update would depend very much on which map of which year is currently installed and to which map you would like to upgrade.

Hi Rob Welcome here
If I may answer B for you. I recently updated a unit for a friend who also neglected to update for sometime to Street maps 2011. As long as you keep to the class maps the unit was originally registered under and not wish to change to another the standard cost is R349.00 If you want to upgrade to Topo when Street maps are installed the cost would be R1299.00

Telepathy, telepathy, telepathy. Thanks guys. Will go for an update in the same class (after a firmware update). Nice to chat again... and receive a quick sensible reply.
