Re: Anyone else no longer getting traffic notifications?
Bump
I see that Garmin sells a traffic subscription service for South Africa in partnership with Altech Netstar.
Yet the Altech Netstar (ZA) Lifetime Subscription auto searches for a service... and doesn't find one.
Any ideas?

Re: Anyone else no longer getting traffic notifications?
Hi.....Phillip. With reference to the traffic management service it is essential to know that not all Garmin units are traffic capable ( https://www.google.co.za/search?q=which ... 38&bih=641). Older discontinued Nuvi units will still have this feature available on the unit when purchased.
Assuming your Garmin unit came with a Garmin Wireless Receiver/Lifetime Traffic/Vehicle Power Cable (BC30), you should'nt have a problem activating the Altech Netstar subscription, but if you haven't got an active subscription and traffic cable, do the following, and I quote:
To purchase the Lifetime Traffic subscription:
1.Visit the following link: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/cTraffi ... ml?ra=true
2.Select the traffic subscription that you would like to purchase.
3.Follow the on-screen prompts to purchase the subscription.
The traffic receiver Unit ID is required to activate your newly purchased traffic subscription.
To locate the Unit ID for the Traffic Receiver:
1.Connect the Traffic Receiver/Vehicle Power Cable to the Garmin device
2.Touch Tools
3.Touch Settings ◦ Skip this step on some devices
4.Touch Traffic
5.Touch Add
The Unit ID should appear on the touchscreen of the device.
The traffic services will only work on a compatible device that has City Navigator NT maps for the traffic coverage area. For example, if the traffic service is for South Africa, the corresponding City Navigator South Africa NT map must be on your compatible device in order for the traffic to work.
Hopes this helps.
Regards

Re: Anyone else no longer getting traffic notifications?
Thank you for the comprehensive information.
Today the auto search found the Altech Netstar traffic service, regularly looked for updates, indicated it was up to date and showed some road work information.
How up to date and accurate is this traffic information?

Re: Anyone else no longer getting traffic notifications?
My opinion,......traffic information supplied by Altech Netstar, is not as prompt as for instance Google Maps on your smartphone. There is a lot of applications available at Google play store, and when installed on your smartphone, will give the same or better results with regards to traffic congestions. By comparison, there is a vast difference between Google and the Garmin unit's Altech Netstar traffic information. Google traffic is global, and traffic congestions are shown on the map irrespective of where you are. With Altech Netstar, once you leave the built up areas, very little traffic information is supplied on the Garmin device, and therefore it could now be reasoned that you don't need traffic updates on the open roads.....this point could be debatable. So, before making a trip, activate Google Maps on your smartphone, and work from there.....anyone's choice. In today's world we've got smartphones to help us with almost everything.
By making use of the Garmin unit alone, in built up areas, you could be caught up in traffic for a very very long time....which has happened to me and some other forumites.
Have a look at my post no: #4339,under (TMC) Traffic Management Channel, sub heading, Traffic Provider Netstar and, under Mobile Phones and Laptops, sub heading, Waze Navigation, post no: #4653, dated 08 March 2017 and 28 May 2018 respectively.
Regards.
