Linking your smart phone with your Pnd (Personal Navigation Device) via "Smart Phone Link, obtainable from Google Play Store, and for compatible Garmin device's only," ~ could save you a lot of data if you use the two in conjunction. Looking for places, using the Google Maps, on your smartphone, and finding the Poi where you want to be, can easily be transferred from phone to Pnd.
Unfortunately, the procedure below, is only for Pnd's that has Bluetooth available, and can accomodateSmart Phone Link.
1.Download and install Smartphone Link on your smartphone.
2.Plug your Pnd, into the vehicle's 12v power supply, or alternatively, if both units have sufficient power reserve, this could be done indoors. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO THIS WHILE DRIVING, AS THIS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES.
3.Turn on Bluetooth (if available on your Pnd), on both units and "pair" the devices. Follow the "prompts" on both units. Ensure that both units are "paired" before attempting any trip planning.
3.After successful pairing, using the Maps app. on your phone, find the place of interest, touch the red drop pin on your phone and "share" the red drop pin with your Pnd.
4. The name of the location will now be available in your Pnd's, HISTORY folder.
5.Plan your route on your Pnd, by pressing "GO",on the "POI" and of you go. If you've downloaded the monthly RHD-TTI gpi, you will now be able to make use of possible road hazards "en route", which is not available on your smartphone. Disconnect Bluetooth on both devices, but if you want to make use of point 6 below, both units must stay connected.
6. Another feature from the Smartphone Link, is, that after pairing, all your contacts on your smartphone is available on your Pnd, and you can make/receive phone calls through your Pnd…..for those that doesn't have 'Hands Free" kits like me
installed...….please note, this option needs your phone to be connected to your service provider all the time when connected to your Pnd. NB. Unpair both unit's Bluetooth connections, by disabling bluetooth after use, otherwise you WILL NOT be able to hear or make calls from your phone when used away from your Pnd.If this is to tedious, just use your phone in the normal way, by making use of the various app's available from play store.
