Hello All,

Newbie from the Vaal saying hello.
Owner of 3 Nuvi's and a Caska (TomTom). Hopefully I will learn a lot from the wealth of info I've come across on this forum...please be prepared for questions

Not sure where to ask this:

Older Caska unit as fitted to Nissan Navara:
Any idea what mapping will work in the unit? I know that the newer Caska maps (TomTom) don't work, I've tried the card from my D310 Universal.

Any help/ info appreciated.

Hi Ross, you could try t4a(tracks for africa) maps available from http://www.planetworld.co.za, they supply mapset cards for in-vehicle navigation, or you could download free maps from Openstreetmap at http://www.openstreetmap.org. One thing to remember is, that t4a mapsets do not support features such as lane assist, etc. Something else to remember is, that all mapsets on gps devices is licenced to that device ONLY and therefore will not work on any other system. Hopes this helps.

That explains why my D310 card would not work on the Navara unit.
The other issue I have is that I did not receive a map card (bought a used vehicle), I can probably download a suitable map from openstreetmap, but I don't have the system files (on the SD card) that would be needed in order for the unit to read the map files. I don't even know if my unit runs Android or WinCE. Where would I be able to get suitable SD card's system files? The unit tells me that maplaunch is not found. Any pointers on this appreciated.

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately I’m not prepared to deal with Planet Electronics, I’ve had nothing but issues with their unit, and back up service is near non-existent.

Any other suppliers that I can buy a card from?

Contact T4A Tracks for Africa. They should be able to tell you if their map set will work with your unit or better still if you can find someone to borough a SD card from to try on your unit before you buy. The T4A licence is on the SD card and not on the unit so you are able to swop it around if you have more than one unit.
