Yeah switching to car mode changes it to what I was expecting in pedestrian mode.

Suppose I will just use the car mode even though I'll be walking

The way I see it now is that pedestrian mode was deigned for those that would like to hoof it in the city with its own set of avoidances. To their way of thinking, who would want to go walkies in the bush in any case. Glad you are sorted Brian.
