Garmin GPS Trip History
Garmin GPS Trip History
Hello! I just completed a 240 kilometer round trip journey to Ponta Do Ouro, Mozambique using my nuvi 3597. I noticed an issue that I would like your input on. My Garmin tells me that I drove 60 kilometers today, when the actual figure is about 240 kilometers. The trip map has pins indicating where I started and finished my journey but only shows the track for 60 kilometers and not the whole trip. I had good GPS signal the whole time. Why does my Garmin give an inaccurate total distance driven? Thanks.

Re: Garmin GPS Trip History
Hi aronrana,
the Nuvi 3597 records all trip logs. Have you looked at the archived trip log files contained in \GPX\Archive, nestled in the internal device's memory? Is your unit Software Version up to date, ie. version 5.50? I am not sure what is going on with your 3597 as I have not experienced that problem, although I don't monitor the trip log as carefully as you do. I do use routing frequently though, and from what I can remember all my recent travels are showing. For information only, I've uploaded a RAR file of a recent trip I've done, where this trip log was saved in my Nuvi's internal memory under \GPX\Current and was 93Km long
Regards

Re: Garmin GPS Trip History
Hi aronrana,
in addition to this topic, please excuse my curiosity, but how did you obtain the the image from your post? By the look of it, it is a screen shot.
Remember, the Nuvi's trip log is stored as a Gpx file in the internal memory of your unit so, you can only open it with the MapSource or Basecamp map set applications, and by default, on my laptop it opens with the Mapsource map set application. If you have both map sets installed on your pc/laptop, change the default setting from MapSource to Basecamp, by right clicking on the Gpx file, select Properties, and a window will open giving you an option to open with Basecamp, select Basecamp, and apply the change by clicking on apply. Please report back on the forum if you've solved your problem.

Re: Garmin GPS Trip History
Hi Phillip. My device has the latest software (5.50) and the latest version of City Navigator Southern Africa (2024.20). The easiest way for me to check my trip logs is to open Garmin Base Camp and select my device. All my trip logs are shown, with extensive detail, and is accurate to what I drove in reality. The only issue is that I cant see this data accurately on my device via the "Where I've Been" option in the apps section. If there is an way to fix this issue, im open to ideas. Otherwise i am more than happy to just have a look on my computer instead. Yes, the image I uploaded is a screen shot. You enable screen shots under Display in Settings. You will then find a camera logo on the top right corner of your screen. Each time you want to take a screen shot, tap that logo. Your screenshots will be found in the device internal storage in the screenshots folder.

Re: Garmin GPS Trip History
Hi aronrana, thank you for your reply and thank you for the " screenshot explanation"....I'm fully aware on how to do it.
This is a rather long explanation on how to obtain the Trip Log/s on your unit, so please follow the guidance carefully.
From the main screen on your unit when switched on, you will see the settings tool, touch on it and a new window will open up with a couple of options ie. Map & Vehicle etc, click on this option and a new window opens up. Scroll down on this page and select Map Tools, click on this option and another new window opens up. From here, you can select what you need, ie. by ticking each option with it's own block to be shown on the main screen of the unit, as listed below. Ensure that the block with the option of Trip Data is ticked and then click on the Save button. Once Saved, hold the return button down, until the Main Screen appears....this is a quicker way of returning to the Main Screen, rather than touching the return button on each page
* Stop
* Detour
* Up Ahead
* Trip Data
* Traffic
On the main screen page, click on View map, and at the bottom right hand corner, click on the three bars option and on the mini screen that opens up, you will see all of that you've selected on the Map Tool page. By clicking on the Trip Data option, it opens up a new mini window on the map page, ie.
* Trip A
* Moving Average.
* Moving Time.
By clicking on each option individually, ie. Up Ahead, Volume, Brightness etc. a new mini window opens up with the their own specific selection options. On the Up Ahead option, you have three selections ie. Fuel, Toilets, and Food, and by clicking on the Fuel option, a list of the nearest Fuel Stations, in the area where you are, will open up in a new window where you also have the option to "GO" by clicking on a selected option. Once clicked on a Fuel Station, the Main Map Screen will open up automatically, giving you the routing to the selected Fuel Station, with a purple coloured route indicator, and if required, follow the prompts. This also applies for all the other items on the Up Ahead mini screen.
* NB: If the Trip Data block was'nt ticked previously on the Map Tool Page, and now with Trip Data checked,you will see your previous Trip Logs, as indicated by a Blue Couloured Line on the Map Screen. When on a new trip, the Trip Log will be recorded with the settings saved on the Map Tool page and you will see the whole trip indicated by a blue line on the View Maps selection .
On the Main Screen, click on the Apps application, click on Where I've Been option and on the new screen you will see the Trip Routes as well as the date and total distance stamps. By zooming in on the map, making the map smaller, you'll get a better picture of all your trips. On the same page, by clicking the three bars in the top left hand corner, you can delete your saved trip Travel History, if required.
Something you've got to remember, whatever you've selected on the Map Tool page, will clutter the Map Screen considerably, so be very selective on what you want to see on the Map Screen.
With this long directive, I hope that this is what you were looking for, but as you stated in your reply, if this procedure is not what you wanted, then the next option is to see your Trip log as a active GPX log on your pc/laptop.
Hopes this helps.
Regards.
