Yes it works good.
There are a couple of points that I might add.
You have to start the navigation close to where you made your start point otherwise it does not join the route.
You must stick strickly to the route. if you take a short cut you could cause it to recalculate.
I'm surprised that no one else has tried this and given feedback.

Agree. It happened so many times to me before but if you don't stick to the route i think there is two options:
# "Stop" and then: "Start at Beginning of route" or "Continue from where you last deviated from the route.

Hi Joe Johan And Montana

Thanks for the interesting topic and information. I think that I am also one of the many who think Garmin made a big step backwards when changing from "routes" to "trips" ! Surely it could be made an option on the unit itself as I notice if one plans a route in BaseCamp with Viapoints and then looks at the properties of the route the intermediate viapoints are marked (won't alert) but they still appear on the GPS .

I have used many long preplaned routes on my old faithful 710 into areas like Botswana, Moz, Zambia etc where we have had 2 or 3 alternative routes on the GPSr and it has been easy to change from one route to another if necessary because of local conditions etc.

I have also used routes with T4A maps with no problems (no other maps selected!)

I have used WinGDB3 to remove the alerts but, as mentioned, the downside is if the unit recalculates, it routes directly to the End Point of the route regardless of points in between. I have found that even pulling into an Ultra-City is enough trigger a recalculation.

Hi Joe and Silver Fox:
I have found that even pulling into an Ultra-City is enough trigger a recalculation.
The statement i made previously mabe wrong about a recalculation, so i am going to test it tonight with the 2595.
What do you mean by recalculation, Joe and SF? Does it take you back toe the same route or a other route that the gps
wants you to go??

I still think there is also a difference between a long route and short route. In my case it's most of the time short routes:
from Potchefstroom to GSA in Honeydew or OR Tambo and back. I don't want to stop at any places along the route. So in
this case the WinGDB3 works 100%. When i drive from Potchefstroom down to Constantia, Cape Town, you want to stop at
Ultras and it's impossible to pre-plan that route, so i normally starts my route at Bellville (N1) and from there to N2, N3 down
to Constantia. ( I hate Main Street)

In my earlier years Trip Planner would have worked beautiful for me. A waypoint at every pub in every town, from here to Cape Town.
No, i don't drink and drive, i am a photographer and still have a great collection of photos of all the pubs in SA.

Still think the 710 and 500 are the best.

No, i am not wasting the City Councils time now, i am in a meeting.
Don't read this post if you think i talk to much. (Just not old enough to learn from anybody) :???:

As both of you explained about "recalculates": I did a test this afternoon with my 2595 on a route and went of the original route like stopping at a Ultra.
When i took the route again it recalculates me to the end destination, as you explained but didn't take the route as i planned it. The gps took the "faster time"
route that it will normally take when you give him only the beginning and end points, not even close to what i have planned.

Sorry, i am a little bit slow apstairs. I've learned a lot about this Route vs Trip planner.
I think i've reached the end of a long road.
Thanks again everyone for keeping up with me and thanks for the forum that's alive and always ready to answer, sometimes silly questions.!!!!!

Regards.
