I bit the Bullit! 3590LT @ R2999 Makro Ottery

Re: I bit the Bullet! 3590LT @ R2999 Makro Ottery
After a trip home I have the following to report:
1) Seems the Screenshot Camera DOES stay in the top RH corner, BUT...
2) the unit does not like overhead Eskom lines!! It reboots! This morning to work just before the N1/N7 intersection and this evening just off the N2!! :(
3) The fuel consumption per trip looks realistic ! The 3790 always gave me about 25 litres/100km resulting in a trip to or from work costing R100+ Now it shows 9 - 11 l/110 (mornings it is "downhill" at 130kph, evenings it is <100kph "uphill" back to Bellville.
4) Auto volume works although I have not taken a call on the hands-free.
5) very graphic fly-overs in between turn offs - before it showed exit 9a in 5km time so lots of turnoffs where one can mistakenly turn off if you are not concentrating - now it gives a graphic of the fly-overs before it does the photo and lane assist just before the actual turn-off - I will pull some screenshots to explain this a bit better.
You are right - the forum has spell checker! Just noticed the squiggly red underline under some words!

Re: I bit the Bullit! 3590LT @ R2999 Makro Ottery
Hi Otto,
Try this for the reboots.
In your Garmin POI folder there is a file called TRACKS4AFRICA.GPI
Just rename it to TRACKS4AFRICA._GPI. (effectively disabling it).
I had reboots in Pretoria. Did this and the reboots stopped.
Where do you drive from Bellville to ?
I want to simulate.
Regards
Joe
I got my 3490LMT for R2699 on one of those 1 day specials.

Re: I bit the Bullit! 3590LT @ R2999 Makro Ottery
Thanks - I will try that as it DID NOT REBOOT this morning hoing under the M7/N1 Powerlines (although it was heavily screencaptured!)
Just rename it to TRACKS4AFRICA._GPI. (effectively disabling it). - I did - Thanks!
Where do you drive from Bellville to?? Mowbray I turn off the N2 onto the M57 and immediately into Gloucester Rd and RiverPark Maitland Pty Ltd on Google Maps?
I go to work via N1, M5, N2
I go Home Raapenberg Rd, N2, Heideveld/Modderdam weg (think it is Exit 19 - see it everyday but keep it in virtual storage side of my brain!
:)
Go forth and simulate!
Fuel / Trip Reports: Damn, Now the pic must be 768x576 and mine is 800 x 480! It is already a convert from .png to .jpeg... Ok let me take a Snipping Tool capture of that pic!... and then a similar 24.3 km one with the 3590... Looks a bit more realistic does it not!!
Route Options - Does not just say "GO" gives options which way! This new Icon gives more info...
Cannot add another attachment, 5 is the maximum. :(

Re: I bit the Bullit! 3590LT @ R2999 Makro Ottery
Sunny Monday Morning to all you all!
3590 "rebooted" a few minutes in from starting my morning trip to work So Power Cables are out, and possibly renaming that file is also out. It does not lose its trip as it ± immediately starts chatting away as if nothing has happened but goes though the loading Maps and then Dont use me when driving warning. I have to select Maps and the Screen Capture is off so I have to navigate the menu's to get that switched on again.
Hey, Birds-eye is supported - let me see what is required for getting that running. :( No I see it is not! :( How did you do that??
And Smart Phone option for finding your car seems to be active as well!
But, let's get to look busy as the rif-raf all pitch up for work! :)
All the best!

Re: I bit the Bullit! 3590LT @ R2999 Makro Ottery
Still getting regular reboots - a bit of a pain as it loses the phone, ecoRoute and Screen Capture settings and the "Trip" report at the end is only of that portion that trip post reboot.
Tuesday the unit booted up with all the frames and buttons but no map nor car - just grey! Had to pull over and Hardboot the unit.
Screen is more reflective of all the units I used before and it is shaky - unit must be heavier while the cradle is flimsier.
Not sure it was a good move - that is away from the 3790. I will set both up on my dash and see how they compare.
Despite initial issues with the 3790 it was a solid as a rock over the past bulk of my ownership thereof.
It does not have the "display Malfunction" that I still frequenly get/got with the 3790 - that is where the screen starts doing it's own thing as if a ghostly finger is touching all over the screen.

Hi Erich,
The ghost finger story there sounds as if it could relate to a capacitive touchscreen problem(?!?). Anyone else have further thoughts on it?

Re: I bit the Bullit! 3590LT @ R2999 Makro Ottery
3490 seems Rock solid so far. Screen is stable and no shake, I use portrait only.
I don't use Bluetooth because Car has Bluetooth. Tried to pair it to the Car but no go.
Don't use Ecoroute either.
Maps only the pre-loaded ones that came with it.
Traffic works good every day so far.
I've disabled tracksforafrica.gpi because if I had reboots in Pretoria (Driving from Pretoria City to Union Buildings) Did it in Simulation too.
