New Garmin maps

Post by Ernestvdb »

Can the new Garmin city navigator maps be bought and loaded onto my Nüvi 1410? I am using the Garmap Topo & Rec at the moment.

For Southern African countries, are the City Navigator maps the same (or better) than the older Garmap SA maps? ( I have to post a few times to get out of new member probation otherwise I would have asked it in the same post!). I suppose the TOPO and REC feature will be lost?

Ernest how up to date is Topo & Rec on your unit? It may be better/cheaper to stick to topo.An upgrade for Topo & Rec would cost R349.00 and if you upgraded during this year the upgrade to 2012.3 would be free. The CN maps can be bought and will work on the 1410 but you will have to contact GSA directly for the cost. You can have two map sets on one unit 1 on internal memory and 1 on a SD card. But make sure that only one is active at the time. As for foe which is the better of the two the jury is still out on that one. Personally I consider Top & Rec to be better as it covers off road tracks and show terrain contours and farm boundaries that is not available on CN

Thanks Jan. I have 2011.2 Topo & Rec and also use T4A when going off the beaten track. Unfortunately I have already had the free Garmap upgrade. I have found recently in Gauteng that I require an update after the upgrading of the highways and landing in the wrong lane for a turn-off. The lane-assist feature sound very good. Not sure if it will work on the 1410 though. I will visit our dealer, get quotes and then decide.

According to the User manual the 1410 do support lane assist. But I don't think it is near what you have on the new PND's I seem to remember that It may be displayed in the top left hand corner where the preview data is shown on a very small scale.
