I have browsed through the parallel forum, like anything new it will take a bit of getting used to as far as the layout goes but I think it is as good as we now have now.

One thing I did notice was that it is considerably faster navigating between pages/topics. Is this just because it is not so busy at present? In my view, the additional speed would be an advantage to motivate a change over.

Test drivers required

Hi all,

I have been at it again and have been experimenting with various bits of forum software. The 3 that have have stuck out thus far are (in alphabetical order):-

1.) MyBB
2.) Simple Machines 2
3.) Vanilla Forums

Here are examples of each for you to test drive and get a feel of.

mybb

smf

vanilla

All of them come with the nifty Anti-Spam feature that links to http://www.stopforumspam.com to prevent spammers. Below is a link of a comparison between the 3 forum software packages:-

Have a look and see which one looks nice.

P.S. To the existing Mods/Admins, I can grant admin/mod privileges for you to play with the forum software.

Hi Keith,

It could be due to there being no demand on the forum software or it could truly have been faster. Please feel free to refer to the link I posted above referring to the comparison site for more stats.

I like mybb, the layout seem similar to what we are uses to. Vanilla seem to throw throw things together and will be the difficult keep track of a thread. If we have to move MyBB will get my vote.

There I am also partial to MyBB and SMF.

Vanilla puts the Announcements first and then newest to oldest topics. You should be able to login with your username/password from phpBB3 and be able to test drive all of them.
