Battery Replacement

#1278

Post by Silver Fox »

With Reference to Fugglefeet's request to post details on changing the battery on my Nuvi 710, here goes.

The battery life on my 710 deteriorated pretty rapidly until I was only getting +/- 10 minutes on a charge. Garmin SA told me that the battery was not replaceable and I should replace the unit. After reading some discussion on the "old" forum from members who had done it, I decided to replace it myself.

I Googled "Replace Garmin Battery" and found a number of U-Tube videos on various GPSr models.

I ordered a battery from Battery Bay http://www.batterybay.net/ and took advantage of their free delivery (about 10 days to Nelspruit) They even supplied a special "tool kit" (little plastic tool and screw driver -not really necessary) for an extra $ 1.00

To open the unit and change the battery was easy - just match the colours and plug the wires in. No soldering or anything.

Although I don't use the unit much now, the battery life is still probably better than when it was new.

I have also purchased camera batteries from them with no hassles.

I have noticed that their prices have gone up quite a bit recently and possibly there cheaper sources available.
