Thanks for those kind words Rimfire. Now all we need is contributions of the members to build the forum to be one of the best. The change of user name from Shorty to John was no to be anonymous but rather more technical. The face is still the same though just a newer version.

Well done to everyone concerned.

Some thoughts from an average user: I am not "into" gps - use them as a tool. I went today and bought 2 new Garmin 2495 units - still have an etrex, 310, 500 and some aviation units. Was horrified on coming home and finding the Garmap forum and ability to update with speed cameras etc gone.

Earlier while in the shop and comparing units I told my son about the benefits of staying with Garmin etc. Frankly had I known then that the forum was gone, the ability to keep up to date with speed cameras etc then I would hve looked at other brands, or the latest software for my iPhone / iPad etc.

You have no idea how angry I was that Garmin et al want us to pay for speed camera data when I have personally sent in the past many updates, it is after all, user collected info.

Still confused abouyt the maps that came with my units as opposed to the garmap maps from the past.

You can still Get Road Safety Data Right Here on this Forum and its still for free.

download-page-for-road-hazard-data/

You can still purchase Garmap Maps From the Garmap Website of course.

Baie werk, uitputtende werk, baie keer nie eers deur party gewaardeer.

Nogmaals BAIE DANKIE!! :salute:
Ek wil ook net dankie sê! Ek was baie geskok toe die Garmap Forum net verdwyn het...
Thanks!

A great Admin job has been done here; the layout is great, it has a pleasant yet familiar feel to it and what I rate most highly is that this Forum is "non-branded" and not "Owner" driven, as in a few well-meaning (but still company mandates). You have no idea how difficult it was to keep the now defunct Garmap Forum on the straight and narrow since many of the off-mandated posts or mentions contained mostly valuable input at that time. I like to think we made more friends than foes over the 8 years of it's existence but we should never have been required to be put in that latter position.

We have made a request in writing to convert that mass of knowledge into a Wiki for reference but have to date not heard nor seen nor read a 'piep'.

Darryl - please don't forget to count me in should the Forum require support in the nature of Greenbacks ... or are they lightest red ones. Either way feel free to shout.

A beeg thank you to all in the Admin Team for putting it together; a not that easy a task I can assure you.

This is my first post on this forum :celebrate: and I enjoy the interaction in forums such as this.

As mentioned in previous postings (by others), it is VERY SIMILAR TO ANOTHER FORUM, which I use daily, except Faces and Comments have been reversed.....even the Smilies are similar

Enough for first post....got to keep something for the next one

....Post number 2 coming in.....

I was a member of the Previous Forum.......but, like all good things, it was replaced by a more modern Forum.....

I assume that once the 3 posts have been submitted and the Powers That Be approve (hopefully not disapprove  ), then posts will be viewable immediately.....

....And Finally.....

Once approved, I assume I will be able to search for 'Familiar Faces and Names' of Forumites who I know.....

As mentioned in my previous post, I was a past Forumite from about 2006 and have asked numerous questions, receiving brilliant, knowledgeable replies over the years....

I now await my Forum Response

....Oh no....Don't tell me my first posting, a compliment to the New Forum, was previewed by myself  (looked good) ..... and then I forgot to submit and continued with the 2nd post  .....

I love this format of Forum as I am a regular on another extremely similar Forum and the only difference between that one and this is that the Faces and Comments are the other way around....

I do hope this is going to be an English Forum....maybe 80% of the words in a post should be automatically spell checked....wouldn't like to impose on the Moderators to read EVERY POST before publishing it.

But nice job guys....keep it up...
