I might have missed this on the "old" forum but I do notice that the Lane Assist, etc. on this latest version is a bit more comprehensive with pre-warnings a few(?) times if you are, say, 10k from the turn off ahead.

Also imagine I saw some extra arrows on the LH map view - Must first find out how the photo upload works on this BBS package.

I agree, The CN Maps are getting better all the time.
Lane Assist is not "eye candy", it's actually a very good feature when driving on unknown or unfamiliar highways.

As with anything new, It needs time to improve.

Joe I don't own a GPSr with CN map installed so I would not attempt to comment on or make any comparison between the two map sets. I may be wrong please enlighten me. On 13 April 2011 GDA and Navteq in a joint press release anounced a long term licence agreement to for the supply of Navteq maps for all newly launched GPSr's (The 2xxx, 37xx etc, series). So Garmin pay royalties to Navteq (which is owned by Nokia) for CN maps. On the other hand Garmin buy raw data as per their licence agreement, from Tele-Atlas, (which is owned by Tomtom), and they use their (Garmin's) software to convert the data to produce the Gramap map sets. This to my way of thinking this is 6 of the one and halve a dozen of the other. I may be wrong again but I don't think that the 2012.2 will be the last release of Garmap map we see.

Joe - I think it's worth correcting something here. Our database is all 'Tom Tom' and 'TeleAtlas' has gone to that big place in the sky of dormont companies. But "watch this space" is the only log I'm going to put on the fire

Once Garmin brings out a Topo Map of South Africa for the Adventure units I believe that Garmaps will be phased out completely.
They are currently paying royalties to TomTom for what ?

Regarding the Maps, Remember you explained all to me in a very long PM about 6 months ago.

Getting back "on topic" I do believe that CNRSA is improving with every new version, to strongly agree with OTTO.

I seriously hope that this Topo Map will then be useable on the Oregon in place of the (now defunct) Topo & Rec maps, and that they will give us the option to upgrade from T&R to the Topographic Map. Any idea of release date?

I'm not sure about other people's use of T&R (which included streetmaps) - but I generally only needed/used T&R for my travels, even though the Oregon originally came with both the T&R and the Streetmaps. I'm going to have to upgrade one of the two mapsets shortly so that I can find the newer streets and housing developments, but I don't really see the point in upgrading T&R to last year's final release in favour of Streetmaps to this year's (ongoing) release. Hence my leaning towards upgrading Streetmaps and leaving T&R as is... I really only want the T&R for the contour lines when planning offroad excursions.


Of course, it would be REALLY nice if the new Topo Map contains enough information to allow me to use the Oregon's 3D capabilities....

Anybody want/able to comment on this, please?
