Nuvi 2497 LTM?
Nuvi 2497 LTM?
Hi, I am looking for a new GPS - main usage is street addresses and routing via multiple waypoints. I typically use Mapsource to plan a route and then download to the device (currently an old Quest). The Nuvi 2497 seems to fit the bill. Any suggestion/comments really appreciated. Thanks

I think that you cannot go wrong with this Nuvi.
You've already done the "homework"
The Change from "Routes" to "Trip Planner" can be a challenging but once you get it right, Trip planner is actually better.
Also try to learn BaseCamp which is the compatible PC App for your new Nuvi.
And Free Lifetime Maps, That's a bargain

Thanks dasilvarsa, whilst learning BaseCamp (I'm a slow learner and Basecamp can be quite intimidating) could I still use Mapsource for route planning and then download to the Nuvi?

Yes,
You can try this.
Make the route in Mapsource (Use the map that is installed in your Nuvi)
Save it as route.gpx or gdb (or another name .gpx or .gdb)
Import to Basecamp
Right Click Send to Device in Basecamp.

OK - I tried, and tried, and tried. Mapsource does not recognise the 2597 so any suggestions as to how I get Mapsource to use the maps on the Nuvi?

Re: Nuvi 2497 LTM?
The first time you connect the 2497 to your computer to register on the Garmin Website it should install Garmin Express. Garmin Will check for updates and inform you if your maps are up to date or weather updates are available. Install all available updates. If a map update is available click on "device" Then click on advanced options. You will then have the option to install the maps on the device only, device & computer or computer only. If no map updates are available you can go back to "Reinstall" maps after you have set your advanced install preference and reinstall the map on your computer only. The CN maps will then be listed in Mapsource and available to use
