2009 Mapset No Longer Installs

#2528

Post by Spanner »

Hi All

My PC recently crashed after a number of years and I had to format the HD

Now when I tried to install my 2008 mapset it tells me the link to Garmap no longer works.

I think it a little unfair that I am forced to upgrade when the old mapset worked fine for me even though old.

My Colorado 300 is still loaded with the image files and works fine, but I can no longer use Mapsource to plan routs and transfer to the unit.

I did go to the website to see if the latest mapset could be purchased but my unit is not listed as compatible with the latest software.

Any advise on how to get my old CD's working without linking to the website?

Thanks
James

I can see no reason why you can't "upgrade" your unit to the last Garmap mapset IMHO. Cost will be R249.00

EDIT: Sorry, price should be R349.00!

Welcome to the Forum Spanner
I take it that you have installed Mapsource on your PC successfully. To install the older map sets on your PC you did not have to use the Garmap link. You only needed the unlock code for that map set. Open the DVD and find and open the SA Street Maps folder and run setup. That will download the files to your PC. Log onto the Garmap Website using your original user name. Click on My details which will open your profile with the list of registered products and units. Click on the arrow on the left hand side of the map set you need to unlock and you will see the unlock code for that map set. Copy it or use the download option to your PC. Use the code to unlock the map set in Mapsource.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I did register the maps but they are no longer listed on the website under my profile, only the actual GPS unit.

The mapsource I managed to load again and did the online upgrade to latest software.

I also tried to re-register the software using the code on the original box but it came back saying the "map had already be redeemed"

I will try again to load via Mapsource instead of opening the CD and using that setup.

I do have all the unlock codes written down.

Garmap upgraded (changed) their website a few years ago. That is when the background colour changed to black. They did not transfer all the historic data to all the registered users, I remember I had to phone them to get a technician to assist to get all the data restored to my profile. You should be able to access the download link for the latest(final) version on Garmap Street maps on the Garmap website, but if your previous registration does not show on you profile the system will probably want to charge you R1299 instead of the normal R349 and you will need to phone them for assistance in getting it to charge you the correct amount.

Thanks guys, I managed to load the maps as instructed by going to the directory on the CD under Topo Maps instead of the main setup file on the route directory of the CD.

Then on Mapsource I went to Unlock Map online and although the link does not work, when you close the broken link there is an option to insert unlock code which I still had and it worked fine.

Even managed to unlock the DEM map that I bought.

Thanks all for advice - where would I go to find out if the new mapset will indeed work on my Old Colorado Unit?

Slightly off topic... but does anyone know if one can get a solar power supply that would work like my cigarette lighter power supply when driving.

The battery life when walking with the unit is dangerously poor and I am sure by now there must be a small solar panel that you could lash to a backpack while hiking with the same adaptor that could fit the Colorado 300 where the car charger normally fits.

Advice appreciated.

The discussion on batteries and Solar panels were moved to technical discussions and can be viewed here
