Why does this webpage want to run the Garmin Communicator add-on all of a sudden?

We are looking at making the RHD available in GPI format and are in the testing faze. To download the pre setup gpi file directly to your GPSr the forum need to install Garmin communicator to your computer. My apologies to Frans for not communicating the change to him beforehand due to a problem with his phone. For those of you that have used to facility on the old Garmap Website please tell us what you would like to download to your GPSr so we can see how best we can accommodate your needs.

Hi Guys, Phillip. With regards to this topic, on the old Garmap website, there was a Gtribe. exe file available for download, with many Poi's available, such as stadiums, golf cources, etc. I still have this file, but it is outdated. Will this file for instance, be available in a updated version? . Regards

My mistake  .This file, I now remember, was available, only on the Garmap Dvd's, but it would be nice to have these updated Poi's in a .gpi file, if possible.

At this stage that would not be possible. We will have to get permission from Garmin to publish it here which may prove to be difficult.
We had numerous requests to make the RHD available in gpi format to download directly to the GPSr. This will help those that have difficulty in setting up the files for installing on a GPSr. We will most likely have 3 options available. RHD without sound files RHD with sound files for Wave capable units and RHD for Mp3 Capable units. Updating the RHD on your GPSr will be done simply by connecting your unit to the computer via a USB cable and clicking on your preferred data set. The communicator will download and install the data on your unit without further input from you.
Regarding the Gtribe Poi I will see if I can find a link to where you can download it from if it is still available.

Another way to load pre-compiled GPI files is simply to copy them to your Garmin device via USB Cable
Most New devices have a POI Folder and older devices usually use the Garmin folder.
Using this method you do not need Garmin Communicator Plugin.

Thanks Joe. We did consider doing it that way. Going that way would not be a problem for those that know their way around computers. Setting up the files and folders required to do the downloads using the data we supply currently would not be a challenge to them either. We do not plan any changes to our current system. The GPI/communicator setup is aimed solely to assist those that does not feel comfortable scratching around the computer and GPSr and have problems with the setup of the data. It will make things easier and give a wider choice of options. I still personally prefer the PoiEditor way so that I can sett a grace limit of 5 kmh not to drive over the limit but to minimise the warnings.
