Hi Guys, Phillip again. It seems to me that the previous uploaded file (Garmap Custom Poi File), does not open, when downloaded, I don't know why, but I've uploaded another file with all the various .gpi files, for those who are interested. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Hi all,

I have now managed to setup the installation of the RHD using a .GPI file for .MP3 capable devices using the Garmin Communicator feature.

Hi all,

I have now managed to setup the installation of the RHD using a .GPI file for vanilla devices using the Garmin Communicator feature. Have also setup the access to the .GPI files for forum members only.

Darryl

P.S. There is a.problem with Internet Explorer and being able to download the RHD. This is being investigated and hopefully a solution is found. Currently Mozilla FireFox works with the Garmin Communicator Plugin. Please be patient while the problem is being resolved.

Hi All,

I have managed to find the problem with the RHD .GPI files not downloading using Internet Explorer. Using a HTTP sniffer here are the results of the download attempt with Internet Explorer:-

HTTP request header:-

Code: Select all

GET /httwww.gps-users-forum.co.za/RHData/RHDGPIWAV.gpi HTTP/1.1
Accept: */*
Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; Trident/7.0; MDDCJS; rv:11.0) like Gecko

HTTP response header:-

Code: Select all

HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found

Server: Apache
Content-Length: 366
Keep-Alive: timeout=5, max=100

Here we have the same procedure with Mozilla FireFox:-

HTTP request header:-

Code: Select all

GET /RHData/RHDGPIWAV.gpi HTTP/1.1

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:34.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/34.0

For some peculiar reason IE gets it right to malform the request for the file. With a starting point, hopefully a solution is in sight. Please bear with me while I look into getting it fixed for our members using IE.

Hi All,

I have managed to rectify the problem, the Garmin Communicator is working and now downloads the RHD .GPI (whether .WAV or .MP3 or just the vanilla option) to the GPSr. Now it just needs to be tested with a variety of units to see which will work and which won't.

Darryl

P.S. Internet Explorer needed for the whole URL to be included in the configuration of the Garmin Communicator Plugin for it to transfer the file successfully to the GPSr.

Well the system is up and running. A few thoughts on the downloads. The system is very slow and users should be patient. My first thought was that is was because the wave file is very large, more than 20mb, (and that is without the toll voice files, adding toll voice will increase it to around 40mb) But after downloading the vanilla version at only 1.4mb, I realise that this is most likely caused by the interaction of the communicator with the web site. Your feedback on the system will be appreciated.

Hi Jan,

I have set back to factory specs. I reloaded ie11. If I download your data to any other garmin, it works. Only this garmin assist 51 comes up with that error I mentioned on an earlier post. I have gone back to PoiEditor and tied again and after quite a few attempts it has worked with the sound. I don't know what I did differently but we will see with the next update.
Thank you for all the help
Regards

Thanks for the feedback Eddie. The Website was down for a few hours on Saturday.
Darryl asked the server host to reset the data base so that may have made the difference. Although I do a test download for each of the three versions after I upload the data I do it to as SD card. I down load the RHD files directly from my laptop using PoiLoader to my units. So although the dat is identical their my be some differences introduced by the fact that it is transmitted at leased twice. That is the only logical reason I can think of why the voice files was working on mine and not yours.
Eddie please keep us informed of how it goes.
