TomTom RHD

#2501

Post by Phillip Coetser »

Hi Darryl, Phillip. I noticed that there isn't much interest in the downloading of Rhd from TomTom users. Is there a program available to convert rhd data from .gpx to .ov2 en masse, meaning all rhd data, or must it be done individually, ie FC 60, FC 80 etc.

Regards, Phillip Coetser.

As far as I know, you can use garmin's POI Loader to create a .GPI file, and then use a program like GSK to convert from GPI to ov2! Just send the GPI file to a flash drive using POI Converter.

Hope this helps

Hi Phillip,

There is a program that can convert all the POI's en masse from .gpx to .ov2 for use on TomTom GPSr. Have a look here:-

http://www.poiedit.com

Hope this helps.

Darryl

P.S. I think it can be used for free for private use.

Hi Guys I'm trying to transfer the RHD files to a TOM TOM Via 130.

I have downloaded the POI converter and converted the GPX files to ov2 but I don't know how to get the ov2 files across to the Tom Tom.

Can anyone assist

Thanks

Hi Stalker, Phillip. Connect your TomTom to your pc ~ open the Tom Tom internal memory ~ double click on Southern Africa folder ~ from here you will see a list of poi's. You will have to import your ov2 poi's, that you've created, one by one, to the Southern Africa folder of the Tom Tom, together with a bmp. image, for each poi. The bmp. image must have the following properties: Width 24 pixels, Height 24 pixels, Bit Depth 8, obtained by using Windows Paint. Also note, that the ov2 poi's name and the bmp. image should have exactly the same name. (Caltex.ov2 ~ bmp.image Caltex.bmp) otherwise the image will not show up on your Tom Tom's menu. This is a very tedious job if you want all the forum's poi's loaded onto your unit, and when new data becomes available, every month, from the forum, you will have to convert all the .gpx files to ov2. Unfortunately, this is the only way to transfer ov2 files and .bmp images to your unit. Good Luck

Hi Phillip, thanks for the reply.

The Via 130 does not show up in explorer on the PC I can hear the handshake taking place. The Via 130 then tells you to go to Tom Tom's website for updates and those updates all download. So it definitely does connect just does not show up in explorer, so I cannot get to it's internal memory.

Hi Stalker and Phillip,

Then the Via 130 is the new breed of TomTom that uses Linux as an operating system that is hack resistant (for now). The older TomTom ONE/ONE XL et. al. are the models that show up as an external drive when connected to a PC that then makes it possible to transfer data directly to the device. I personally think the Linux route by TomTom, was to stop the fraudulent hacking of mapsets that occured with the older units. We may see this kind of behaviour from Garmin too in the near future.

Hi Stalker, I assume you've got Tom Tom drive installed on your pc. (http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answer ... mtom-home). The moment you connect your TomTom device to a computer, your device asks do you want to connect to 'computer', once you tap YES it should connect to the computer. Follow the above link for more info.
