Hi guys, Phillip. This is a quote from Garmin."Garmin is proud to work with HERE maps, formerly known as NAVTEQ maps. HERE keeps our maps fresh, accurate and reliable by making 2.7 million changes to them each day."  I wonder how they achieve this, with still so many map errors on CN Southern Africa Map sets. Perhaps we in SA only form part of a couple of Km's update per year.

The big problem is they cover too large an area of the globe. The changes they make daily most likely may not even include any of the problems we encounter daily in Southern Africa.

Hi Guys. I recently had to go up to George for a funeral. Part of the proceedings was to go and view the body at the funeral home. I updated my Nuvi to CNSA2016.10 before leaving Cape Town. I don't know George that well so I put in the address of the funeral home (28 C.J. Langenhoven Road) and off we went to the viewing. The Nuvi took me to the golf club! I then tried an alternative strategy and put in the name of the funeral home (Olivier & Vermeulen). The Nuvi responded with 'Olivier En Vermeulen Begrafnisonde' and an address of 38 Akasia St. We routed to here and it ended up being on the other side of town, so now we were way late for the viewing. When we arrived, the address we navigated to was just a normal house, not a business.

We then phoned the funeral home and got 'manual' directions and drove there. When I got there, I took a waypoint and also asked the staff if the business had moved recently. They replied no and that they'd been here for 20 years!

Interestingly enough, when I looked where the funeral home was in relation to the golf course, they were very close, perhaps just a couple of hundred metres away.

This was most embarrassing and I would like to report it as an anomaly, but who do I report it to, and, equally important, do they care and will they fix it?

Maybe because of both Langenhoven Street and C.J.Langenhoven Road in George?

Hi all,

From what I am seeing here, Garmin has a lot of catching up to do and just don't seem interested in keeping their client base by fixing glaring problems. I would hate to be a visitor to our country and having to rely on the City Navigator mapsets. I shudder to think of the improvements done to the Gauteng Highway system and whether these improvements have filtered through to the latest mapsets. One wrong turn there and you are (literally and figuratively) screwed.

Hi guys, Phillip. It is with interest, reading Trevor's comment about his CN maps predicament, so I entered his given data on my Nuvi 3597 gps. and the results are attached, I posted two screenshots. Now Trevor, is this the right place? On my Nuvi 3760, with SSA 2013.3 maps, I got the same results as per the attached attachments. Interestingly, when typing the address, the gps listed a C.J langenhoven Road, and C.J langenhoven Street, but I selected C. J. Langenhoven Road. At first, when reading your post, I had a look on Map source with SSA 2013.3 map set, and when I typed the address in map source, found the address and then I switched the map set to CN SA 2016.1 address not found?????.

Interesting is that a few of my friends the other day expressed the view that all smartphones come equipped with a GPS and it is a waste of money to buy a GPS when it is build into your phone in any case. Last weekend a friend of ours said that she would never again rely on a GPS to go any where and would stick to her paper map. Apparently they were returning home from a weekend away when her son noticed a shortcut on his new smartphone and convinced her to turnoff onto what turned out to be a unpaved road, Thinking that it would turn into a paved road shortly they continued only to find that the road got worse the further they drove. They were eventually reduced to crawling speed and although they shaved above 4 km off the total distance it took them almost 2 hours longer. I refrained of telling her that if they used a pucker GPS that would not have happened because with all the classification errors on the CN maps that is exactly what could happen. It is time that Garmin realize that unless they supply a reliable map set with their excellent product they will lose consumer confidence which will affect their sales. The change to CN brought as Junction view and speed limit display which is nice to have but unless they rectify the classification errors and other missing data they will lose some of their loyal clients.
