Re: CN Southern Africa Map Errors
Here Map Creator must surely be the worst piece of software I ever came across.
Why Garmin still use this people I really don't know.
OSM is a breeze to work with compared to this crap.
Try correcting this error of City Navigator a couple of times to no avail. And then old Garmap correctly showing the R101 going over the M36

Re: CN Southern Africa Map Errors
E-mail answer from Mr Thompson:
To: Robert de Vries <redevries@telkomsa.net>
Subject: RE: C N map faults
Good day Mr. de Vries,
I trust you are well?
I have had the Cartography team look into the matter, and can report that the data is correct here – the R101 and M36 do not intersect.
We also tested Routing in both Basecamp (where it appears that they intersect) and on devices and can confirm that the routing functions as expected: it is not possible to turn from the R101 to the M36, or from the M36 to the R101. It was mentioned that the display was correct at one point, but the screenshot notes that it was Garmap (which as you know, no longer exist). At higher zoom levels on devices it looks like the roads are drawing on the same level (intersect), but as you zoom in further, it’s clear that R101 passes over M36. (please see the device screenshots attached). The road geometry in City Navigator Southern Africa has always had M36 and R101 on different z-levels (meaning that they do not intersect) and routing has obeyed them as expected. Unfortunately, BaseCamp has always drawn the two roads on the same level – it does not seem to obey z-levels/road splits the way our other software does, but when planning routes in Basecamp it will calculate the routes correctly. (please see the screenshot taken from basecamp below, where we created a route from the R101 to the M36, it recognizes that the roads do not intersect, and that you cannot turn directly from the one to the other.)
I trust that the above will clarify the matter. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Kind regards,
Mathys Thompson

Re: CN Southern Africa Map Errors
I would like to thank Robert De Vries for reporting this matter to Garmin's Mathys Thompson
and also thanks to Mathys Thompson for his prompt investigation and reply.
Mr Thompson,I respect what you say but there is a couple of issues we must try to sort out.
Firstly, regarding the zoom levels of the devices to show or not to show the map/intersections/junctions etc.
Nobody should have to drive around zooming in and out to see where they are going at junctions.
(although you got the option to set the device to automatically zoom in or not.)
Secondly, If I look at a map, I want to see clearly whether it is possible to turn there or not.
Roadmap in book form, on my PC through Basecamp / Mapsource any other software.
Herewith 2 screenshots of my device:
at 50 meters and at maximum of 15 meters So that don't work for me.
Thirdly, the way the roadmap is displayed- but should look something like this and if you opted for Bridge or Underpass, there must not be any
nodes/junctions where the roads cross. and then the menu when right clicking on a Node/Junction giving you the option to
a) Edit turn restriction
b) Remove this node
c) Remove junction
should then be not showing (greyed out/not available)
A junction/node on a bridge as it shows at the moment, is confusing. Fourthly, aint it possible to modify the software so that multiple segments
can be straightened in line as can be done within Open Street Maps.
It just tidy up the crooked/scew roads.
And lastly, but definitely the most important shortcoming of Here Mapcreator for me is:
The availability of an e-mail address (or Phone) of a person or persons in South Africa who is in charge
of Mapcreator so as to communicate any issues we have ASAP.
Really appreciate your help so far.
