SSL Encryption

Hi all,

A feature that formed part of the free upgrade courtesy of CyberSmart, was the provision of a free SSL certificate for the forum. This feature has the benefit of encrypting communication between the forum and the members. This feature has been implemented and forum members will notice that accessing the forum in the usual manner:-

http://www.gps-users-forum.co.za

will automatically redirect to:-

https://www.gps-users-forum.co.za

Thereby giving that added level of security to the existing array of measures that the forum already has. Below is a screenshot to demonstrate the green lock that shows data is encrypted before being sent or received to or from the forum:-

P.S. I have found that the little lock will change when it encounters a link to non-secure content being displayed on the forum, topic and post. This is the case when links to external images and/or websites in avatars/signatures etc. are present on a page being viewed.

Hi all,

Due to a glitch with the Garmin Communicator API installed on the forum, SSL encryption had to be disabled for the API and plugin to work to transfer files from the forum to a GPSr unit. With support for the API having been discontinued from 2015, it would seem that at a later stage use of the GCP would also be discontinued and necessitating developers of websites using these plugins to go the Garmin Express API route albeit at an expensive $5000.00 annually(?). This makes the use of the Garmin Express API too exhorbitant for the forum and its members to bear. The possibility exists that once the GCP is discontinued and the associated websites using the API will at a later stage no longer fuction to transfer the data to a GPSr unit. Alternatives to transfer the data directly to a GPSr unit have been investigated and none have been found to do the task adequately.
