Welcome to the GPS Users Forum. Garmin only allow you to download the Map updates through either Garmin Express or Garmin Map update. Garmin Express can be downloaded from http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express.html
After you have installed Garmin Express you can connect your GPS to the computer via USB and the program will guide you through the Registration download and update process. That is if you have Lifetime maps on your GPS if not you will have to register on the Garmin SA website (Garmin.co.za) You can then purchase the map set and go through the process to download and install the purchased using Garmin Express.

Thanks Jan, this is the only hope for my Nuvi200 which I inherited from my daughter.
I cannot justify buying Garmin's map sets for the minimal use I have for a GPS.
However I find it is essential when venturing outside Sasolburg
It's a genuine jungle out there
I think Garmin have done themselves a lot of marketing damage by not extending their lifetime maps to older models.

Re: CN Southern Africa NT 2017.3
I tend to agree with you there. It really is not cost effective to purchase a map update for any of the older Nuvi models which is a one time update only. It is far cheaper to buy a new GPS with Lifetime maps. I think buying either the Garmin Drive 40LM available at Makro for R1599 or The TOM TOM Start 20 at R1499 also from Makro both come with Lifetime maps and 4.3" screens are good alternatives to buying map upgrades for the older models. When Garmin switched to CN maps I had a good look at my options and decided to go for the Nuvi 52LM. The Lifetime map included in the price helped me in my decision. At R350 a year for Garmap Map updates at the time it amounted to roughly a 3 year payback time.

Re: CN Southern Africa NT 2017.3
Hi Guys, Phillip. Just to add on what Jan wrote about buying another pnd. When thinking of buying a Tom Tom unit, remember the following. You won't be able to upload any "en massa" poi's, for instance, by converting current RHD data individually, ie. 60 Km/h mobile cams. My son bought a Tom Tom GO 5000, and we converted the 60 Km/h poi's, from Gpx to OV2, for Tom Tom, online, uploaded them to the unit by using Tom Tom My Drive Connect, to no avail. Currently, Tom Tom only supplies a "free" camera subscription, for 3 months, thereafter you will have to buy a yearly camera subscription, at a hefty price, and the Tom Tom camera data base is not as extensive as the users forum RHD data, being a community contribution. Having said this, the unit otherwise performs well, and the Tom Tom Southern Africa mapset is by far better than Garmin's mapsets. Vey difficult choices to make for future buyers of pnd's.

Re: CN Southern Africa NT 2017.3
Yes I agree with Phillip the con of going the TOM TOM way would be the problem up loading custom POI. The older models could still use our data converted to OV2 but when they changed their OS it created a problem. I know that Darryl at one time was looking to find a way around that. The Pro is of course the map quality. The maps are/were complied locally and when Garmin still used the Garmap map sets a lot of local knowledge went into correcting map errors.
