Hi, and welcome to the forum.
TMC stands for Traffic Message Channel. Its purpose is to deliver information about traffic distortions or warnings to mobile receivers such as navigation devices. The information is contained in messages, which are broadcast together with radio broadcasts over FM radio, (where available)
Please be more specific about your problem...

What system are you using, is it a Garmin or TomTom, Gps device...if it is a Garmin unit and you're subscribed to a premium TMC subscription, and the Gps unit is equipped with a TMC traffic receiver cable, you wont need a code...the traffic receiver, once connected to the Garmin unit in car, will register it on the Netstar site. Also please note, that not all Garmin units are TMC capable.

Subscription Code Prompt for Traffic on a Device with an Existing Lifetime Subscription
Some devices come with a complimentary traffic subscription. If your device came with such a traffic subscription, it will be activated automatically once the traffic receiver receives traffic signals. It is not necessary to add an additional subscription to activate your traffic receiver.
To check your Traffic Subscriptions:
1.Connect the vehicle power cable, traffic receiver or traffic antenna to your GPS:◦GTM 20, 21, 25, 26, 35, 36, and 60 traffic receiver cable: Traffic is embedded within the cable
TA traffic antenna cable: Used with a compatible device that has traffic embedded within the device
2.Touch Tools, Some devices skip this step
3.Touch Settings
4.Touch Traffic
Within this section, you will be able to see your current activated Traffic Subscriptions. Subscriptions will only be activated once you have received a Satellite fix and have driven through an area covered by your Traffic provider.
If you can see your required subscription within this section, you will not need to purchase an additional subscription.
PS. This traffic service will only work on a compatible device that has City Navigator® NT maps for the traffic coverage area, in other words, if the traffic service is for South Africa, you must have the corresponding City Navigator NT South Africa map on your compatible device for traffic to work.

Garmin was first to offer the service in South Africa, in time for the FIFA Soccer World Cup in 2010. Navigon coming on board shortly thereafter.
TMC services in South Africa have been available since late 2009, a service provided by Altech Netstar, in partnership with INRIX, Altech Netstar broadcasts their Premium Traffic Service throughout Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal and Western Cape Peninsula. The company planned to launch in Orange Free State, Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga in 2012. Altech Netstar offers a commercial service to its OEM and Commercial Customers. Altech Netstar broadcasts XML services to their device partners and wholesale customers.
Hopes this helps, if not be free to ask for more help.

Regards.

Hello Phillip

We are a few guys working on an University Project that invlovles GPS funtionality, with Traffic updates. The GPS-chip we are usning includes the RDS-TMC funtion. It seems that it is pre-configured to a specific radio station, but this can be changed.
There is a specific paramerter that is empty and needs a code for it. The parameter is TMC-code. What we could figure out about this code is that it seems to be an specific TMC data decryption or TTL code that gets used per country.
Australia uses 1024 and Canada uses 1537.

We cant find anything related to South Africa.
Is this an paid for service? The VW and BMW forums are talking about an Fee-Bases TMC code. It seems to us that only Garmin and TomTom is getting the service here is South Africa. We also to phone Altech Netstar but we can only get to the Tracking Call Center.

Hi Henri, I've also browsed the internet to try and find a code, for your project, but to no avail. I don't think that a service of what you require, exists in our country, my opinion. Good luck with your project.

Regards, Phillip.
