CN SA 2020.10 Map Update
Hi all, for those who qualify, a map update is available via Garmin Express. Do not forget to make a full backup of your unit/s prior to the update, in case something might go wrong, you can then revert back to the saved backup.

Re: CN SA 2020.10 Map Update
There is also a Gamin Express update at the same time.
I experience problems with updating on both y units using Express/ Both freeze at 50% and that is it.
Now the Express update to V6.13.1 is supposed to adresss that but it is still not fixed.

to me
Good day Phillip,
Thank you for contacting Product Support.
Garmin Express connects to the Internet to download software, map updates, and downloadable content for Garmin devices. Internet connectivity and network connection issues can prevent Garmin Express from downloading this content.
Symptoms of these issues include:
•There was an error installing the update error message
•There was an error installing the content error message
•No visible progress over time
•The progress bar periodically lowers to an earlier value
If any issues occur during the "copying files" stage of the update, including those listed above, see the FAQ Garmin Express Fails to Complete the "Copying Files" Stage .
Resolution
1.Ensure you have the latest version of Garmin Express
To check for updates to Express, see the FAQ Updating the Garmin Express Application
2.Ensure that your computer has enough free disk space
Maps contain a lot of information that must be downloaded to your computer before installing it to your device. Some downloads can require up to 20GB of available disk space to install successfully.
Windows
1.Press the Windows key + E
2.Click This PC (Windows 10 only)
3.Right-click Local Disk (C:)
4.Click Properties
Mac
1.Click the Apple icon in the menu bar
2.Click About this Mac
3.Click the Storage tab
3.Ensure that your Internet connection meets the system requirements for Garmin Express
A high-speed Internet connection such as DSL or cable is required to use Garmin Express.
Garmin Express is not intended to be used with mobile broadband (such as a 4G/LTE MiFi, AirCard, or cell phone tethering), satellite, fixed wireless, or dial-up Internet connections.
If you are unsure what type of internet connection you are using, check with your Internet service provider (ISP).
4.Ensure that your data limit is not capped by your Internet Service Provider
Many of Garmin's downloadable map products are several gigabytes (GB) in size.
Some ISPs will place a limit on how much data may be downloaded during a daily or monthly cycle. Depending on the ISP, exceeding this limit could result in reduced Internet performance or fees for the additional data used.
To find out whether your Internet service is capped or restricted, contact your ISP.
5.Ensure that the date, time, and time zone settings are correct on your computer
Even if the time and date appear to be correct on your computer, if the time zone setting is set incorrectly, Garmin Express will not be able to communicate properly with the Garmin servers.
If you need help checking these settings, see Verify the date, time, and time zone settings on a computer
6.Avoid using public Wi-fi connections and work computers
Using public Wi-Fi or a work computer or network can introduce many obstacles that can prevent a successful download. If the download is failing on one of these connections, try the download from home.
7.When using a Wi-Fi connection, ensure that you have a strong signal
Try moving the computer closer to the Wi-Fi router if possible. If you are still unable to get a strong signal, try using a computer that is plugged in with an Ethernet cable.
8.Restart the computer
Note: Shutting down, pressing the power button, or closing the lid on a notebook computer may not effectively restart the computer on some operating systems. Follow the instructions below to ensure that the computer is completely restarted.
Windows 8.1 and higher Windows 7 MacOS/OS X
1.Right-click the Start button
2.Click Shut down or sign out
3.Click Restart
1.Click the Start button
2.Click ▶ next to Shut Down
3.Click Restart
1.Click the Apple icon in the menu bar
2.Click Restart...
3.Click Restart to confirm
9.Run Garmin Express as an Administrator (Windows)

These steps should resolve the issues that prevent content from downloading in Garmin Express. If these steps or the FAQs in Related Content below do not resolve the issue, visit the GarminExpress section of Support Center to search for other Express topics.
Garmin Express creates a set of log files on the computer when it is running. These files contain information that will allow Product Support to identify the issue and provide a resolution in a timely manner.
The log files may be requested by Product Support when working to resolve an issue.

These files can be attached to Garmin Product Support correspondence.
Hope you have a good day,
Tshepiso

Re: CN SA 2020.10 Map Update
Yes that is a straight copy of an article on Garmin support. Searching the Garmin Forum it is clear that we are not alone in having problems with updating the latest maps release.
Support blame any thing from free disc space to mobile connections but to admit that there is something wrong with the lasted map release. They did realise that there is a problem therefore the GE v6.13.1.0 patch they released to fix update problems but that did not solve the problem.
I refuse to accept that a mobile connection and laptop with some 600mb disc free space now all of a suddenly causes the problem. It worked faultlessly for at least 4 years.

Hi Robert, thank you for the info.....I will do so....I shudder to think what will happen to people trying to buy a map set from Garmin at a hefty price, and trying to download a map via GE.
