BaseCamp v4.7.4 crashing

I have downloaded and install BaseCamp v4.7.4 on my Windows 10 64-bit laptop. Everything seems to install OK. However, when I try to use it, it opens up, and when starting using the Trip Planner, BaseCamp crashes. An error message window pops up. When I click either the “Send Error Report” or “No Thanks” buttons in the error message window, BaseCamp closes down. The same thing happened with 4.7.2, 4.7.1 and 4.7.0, and I didn’t manage to find a cure.
Any help will be gratefully received. At the moment I’m stuck

Check to see that if your pc/laptop system is fully up to date....Windows update. If so, remove Basecamp completely. That is, not just uninstall it, but deleted the folder from C:/ProgramFiles(x86) and from C:/ProgramData. And, after that's done, use a tool such as CCleaner (freeware version works here) to remove all the entries from the registry. At this point, all of Base Camp is gone as if it never existed. The same applies to routes and waypoints - back them up. That done, reinstall Base Camp from a new download.
Install the fresh download. Do not add anything to it! If it crashes on open, it's not BC. You have other problems. If it doesn't crash, exercise it by drawing a few routes and waypoints. If BC is still running, it's not BC.

Yes, my laptop system is fully up to date; Windows and Security Updates. I will do as what you said.
I have read yesterday that you can use Revo Uninstaller (also a free version) to completely remove all traces of previous versions.
Some said to downgrade to BaseCamp version 4.6.2 and not BC version 4.7.4; what do you suggest?

Garmin released a new version of Basecamp - 4.7.0 - in order to remove many features that were not in accordance with the GDPR regulation. Actually, it's not that 4.6.2 is wrong here - it's that there were a few web services - that Garmin switched off - and those were interlinked into 4.6.2 - so that in 4.6.2 some functionality is not working anymore - I could on a quick check however not discover any actual difference otherwise in relation to the GDPR regulations - so 4.6.2 is no different in this regard to 4.7.0 - well and new privacy page/EULA of course).
The big problem is that Basecamp 4.7.0 also ships an updated version of Garmin MapInstall - and that version is broken in so far that it does not reliably/correctly send any maps in .img format anymore! This also applies to original older Garmin maps.
On Windows instead of the actual map - only the overview map is sent - so you will have a nearly "empty" map.”

A question, from which site are you downloading BaseCamp? Download from here only,....https://www.garmin.com/en-ZA/software/basecamp/
I'm running BaseCamp Ver. 4.7.4 without any problems.
I would also suggest to download this application, https://www.iobit.com/en/driver-booster.php, and make use of the free version, to see if there are additional drivers that needs updating
Windows Requirement to run BaseCamp sucessfully needs the following,
IBM-compatible computer running Windows 7 SP1 or later
Microsoft® .NET framework 4.6; a current version of .NET will be installed if needed
A video card that supports OpenGL version 1.3 or later to view 3-D terrain
If you experience problems when interacting with the map views, make sure you have installed current video card drivers.

I have downloaded BaseCamp version 4.7.4 also from Garmin’s website.

My laptop details are as follows:
Dell Laptop XPS 15 9510 running Windows 10 Pro Version 22H2.
Microsoft® .NET framework 4.8.
NVIDIA provides full OpenGL 4.6 support.

Will also download the applications as mentioned by you and remove BaseCamp completely, uninstall and delete files from the folders and to remove all the entries from the registry.

Previous I did remove BaseCamp and uninstall and delete files, but not the entries from the registry. I hope it will work this time.

The bad news is that some 5 months ago someone on the Garmin Forum reported the same problem and nobody even bothered to answer.
In another related topic in the same forum, it was stated that Garmin just stopped development of the App. No reason was given but like MapSource Basecamp will still be available, but no further development will be done.
Also, no replacement was announced.

Further to this topic, if BaseCamp still does'nt work on your laptop, maybe it is time to look for an alternative application, depending on what you need to do.

Hi all,

Jan introduced me to an app that works pretty well. Google Revo Uninstaller. This helps with problem apps that need to have registry entries removed that can cause crashing apps. Ideally it's best to install it on a clean system, but nothing wrong with installing it now to help remove persistent registry entries relating to BaseCamp.
