Quite a long list of Changes & Fixes, especially if one considers that this is already Version 4 and that BaseCamp was developed right from the beginning to replace MapSource.

Re: BaseCamp software version 4.0.1.0 Windows
I must say it is starting to grow on me.
I have given some training on it in July and the attendees responded well to it.
One of the big mindset changes is that you do not need to save anything and the transfer to and from works on a copy and paste methodology.
I see they actually have the transfer from and transfer to buttons in the above release :-)
It will mature in time.
Regards,
Derick

Re: BaseCamp software version 4.0.1.0 Windows
It is definitely growing into something bigger and better.
I like the ability to select only one route in a *.gdb file and then load only that onto the unit.
(When going on leave I always plan ahead as far as possible and create possible day trips at the destination.
There are therefore quite a number of routes in my file starting 02nd September, but it isn't necessarily a given that I will use all of them.
In MapSource I always had to copy and paste a particular route into a new file to transfer, otherwise you transfer the lot.)
BaseCamp was created to work with the newer units. (Or is it the other way round?)
I've been using MapSource since about 2002 and was always reluctant to switch over, but I can see myself rather using BaseCamp with the Montana as it is more flexible.
You can also enter a start date and time in your route in BaseCamp and it will then display expected arrival times at your via points along the route.

Re: BaseCamp software version 4.0.1.0 Windows
It is actually better to Download Basecamp 4.0.1 rather than letting it auto upgrade.
Reasons:
There has been some reported failures when auto upgrading from older and Beta Versions.
If you have the file you can load/upgrade multiple computers with the same file saving bandwidth.
here is the direct download link. 50.3 Megs (2 minutes on CELL C WCDMA)

I love NEW Stuff.

Re: BaseCamp software version 4.0.1.0 Windows
Thanks for the link, Joe, it will definitely of use.
Any of you guys would care to comment on the default speeds within BaseCamp/MapSource?
I've bumped up the Interstate Highways from 103 to 108 to check the effect on the long distance trip that starts tomorrow morning.
Any ideas for more accurate averages?

Take the:-
Interstate 120
Major Highway 100
Other Highway 80
Collector Road 60
Residential Road 60
See how that changes the overall travelling time drastically.

I know that it will change drastically using those figures, but it won't be realistic.
You will need to drive at a very high speed to average 120 from Johannesburg down to Cape Town, for instance...

Re: BaseCamp software version 4.0.1.0 Windows
A lot of things will influence the average speeds. 1 Age - how often do you need a comfort stop. 2 Driving habits -can you "read" what is going to happening ahead of you. 3 Other stops - do you like to stop and admire the scenery or take photos. 4 Do you make use of the grace limits or do you stick to the speed limit 5 Is your car fitted with cruse control. 5 Will you be driving all the way or will you swap drivers. 6 Time of day and traffic congestion 7 Road construction along the route.
If you travel to the Cape using the N1 you can add 2-3 hours to your ETA. I am lucky in that I am a pensioner and a Caravaner so all I need is a departure date and an arrival date time in between is immaterial to me.
