Kranspoort Pass

#5650

Post by Phillip Coetser »

Hi all, just a word of warning. Motorists travelling between Groblersdal and Middelburg on the N11 in Mpumalanga, should take note that Sanral is busy replacing the "rumble strips" used for traffic calming, on the Kranspoort pass, near the Helping Hands Community Development, (coordinates S25.4563636 E29.4557476) with ordinary speed bumps. The new elevated rumble strips that were implemented at the top of the Kranspoort Pass have proven to be counter-productive in minimizing accidents and turned the already notorious pass into a death trap. The speed bumps will only be implemented on the descending lanes, direction Groblersdal. As seen in the picture, motorists trying to avoid the current rumble strips by overtaking in the upcoming lane, will no longer be able to do so becuse delineator barriers have been erected throughout the pass to prevent this. This is a very dangerous road and motorists are urged to take extreme caution when approaching this section.

Regards

We had a close look and it seen it now covers all four lanes. It also seem to be more like a rumble bump than a proper speed bump. After a lot of head scratching we think the best approach from a RHD point of view would be to add a new category called "rumble bumps" to the Hazards section. This will be included in the next RHD update. We have updated the sound files as well so please download and install the updated sound files when you do the RHD update.
