Geocaching activities

#934

Post by fugglefeet »

Hi all,

I am keen to find out if this activity, if given a forum here, will take off with interest from members who actively participate in it.

There used to be quite a few followers on the GF. It may be a very good idea.

I had a very interesting conversation with a Geocacher this weekend who was using a Garmin Dakota 20. He originally started out with a Etrex Legend (similar to what I have). He told me that the Dakota 20 is a more user friendly device than the Etrex Legend (which I saw for myself). So if we can capture that sector of the market too and have a forum for them here, imagine what fun you can have on a weekend just geocaching in your own hometown and at the same time hone your GPS navigation skills. We can have a place where they can also swap out cache locations and invite them to post their experiences.

I googled for geocashing and came across a site with a worldwide map of sites. I was amazed to see the coverage and spread of the sites. There are a few in your area listed. One in the Faan Meintjies game reserve spring to mind. I think we should sett the ball rolling and create the facility

I am a keen geo-cacher and do it on a regular basis. I went to Wolseley, Western Cape, over the weekend and found a few. I have also placed a cache in Stilbaai.

People interested in geocaching can go to www.geocaching.com for the relevant information and how to start doing this satisfying hobby.
Step outside, the graphics are amazing.

OK. I have created a forum for geocachers called Geocaching. Let's see how much interest this generates.
