Gillooly's No More

Post by Phillip Coetser »

Hi all, so it seems that we will have to go through another learning curve, with regards to Ekurhuleni to rename major roads, and landmarks, and I quote,
(https://www.timeslive.co.za/news/south- ... mes-roads/)

Proposed names that were adopted by the council include:
•Gillooly's Interchange (N12) – George Bizos: Human rights lawyer who represented many political activists in high-profile political trials, including Walter Sisulu and Nelson Mandela in the Rivonia Trial.
•Voortrekker Street offramp Kempton Park (R21) – Amon Ngulele: Freedom-struggle veteran who nominated the name Ekurhuleni when the city was going through a naming process.
•Barbara Road Edenvale (R24) – Lazarus Mawela: 1976 student activist who is a founding member of the Black People's Convention.
•Tokoza (R59) – Dumisa Ntuli: He was involved in establishing the Congress of South African Students (Cosas) in Katlehong, Vosloorus and surrounding towns in 1983.
•Holfontein/Etwatwa (N12) – Richard Mhlongo: He led East Rand Student Congress, Eraso and Dasco. He was part of the MKMVA underground machinery.
•Tom Jones Road Benoni (N12) – Amina Cachalia: Woman's rights activist who spent 15 years under house arrest in the 1960s and 1970s.
•Edenvale (N12) – Lungile Mtshali: Political activist and former deputy chair of Gauteng Salga.
