Garmin City Navigator Southern Africa - Compatibility

Hello.

My Dad has a Garmin nüvi 1310 that has Garmap SA Streetmaps 2010.3 NT pre-loaded onto it. I am thinking of upgrading the map to City Navigator Southern Africa NT.I just have a few questions.

1. Is the City Navigator Southern Africa NT map compatible with the nüvi 1310?
2. Would the upgrade, valued at R 1,079, be worth it?

Hi Aron, to answer your question:
* The City Navigator Southern Africa NT maps set is compatible with the nuvi 1310, but there are a few things to remember ..connect the unit to
Garmin Express, add and register the unit with Garmin. After the unit is registered at Garmin, whilst the unit is still connected to your pc/laptop, go to the store option and see your options there.
If there is not enough internal memory available, you might get a notification on what to do. Optionally you can obtain a sd card of 8Gb for manually installation of SSA Strreetmaps.
There is a sd card slot on the side of your unit, but the card may need to be formatted to work in the device.
*A microSD/SD card with at least 4 GB of space must be used when updating the maps on a device.
*A device may draw maps more slowly when using a card with a larger capacity if there are too many files and/or large files on the card.
* Garmin Express™ will only install a map update to a memory card if there is not enough space on the internal storage of the device.
Alternatively, there is also free maps available here,...https://alternativaslibres.org/en/downloads.php but that said these map sets is not so detailed as SSA streetmaps.

Personally I would suggest you look a free open sours map like Africa South OSM Topo before spending that amount of money on an old unit like the Nuvi 1310.
I recently loaded AS OSM Topo map for a friend on a Nuvi 40 and he is very happy with it. There is regular updates I think the latest update is July 2023 It can be found at
