The Nuvi 42 & Nuvi 52 currently available at R1249 and R1449 from the Garmin online shop can be a very attractive alternative to upgrading to Garmap 2013.1 The lifetime maps equate to a payback time of 4 years of upgrades and it is debateable that the Garmap upgrades will be available for that length of time.

By which time (4 years from now) my Nuvi 2200 will probably be due for an upgrade too. Maybe the Nuvi 40 (which is what I have my eye on), will also have been superceded with a newer Lane Assist and Junction View device (all at a cheaper price than today's stuff).

The 52 & 42 both with junction view and lane assist are very attractive at those prices.
