Nuvi 2597 "avoid toll" routing

#2348

Post by cecilh »

Now the proud (well maybe not) owner of the Nuvi 2597. Tried playing with it and searched for Durban and told it to GO. Nuvi worked out the normal route. I then set it up to avoid toll roads and highways. The route it works out is almost 2000kms around Lesotho!! If I do the same thing and select Pietermaritzburg it sets up a reasonable non-toll non-highway route of around 600kms.
Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

And here's some more really strange routing:

BASE CAMP Streetmaps 2013.2 NT. Route from Lonehill to Pietermaritzburg - avoid tolls and highways. Distance is 599kms.

BASE CAMP CN Southern Africa NT 2013.3. Route from Lonehill to Pietermaritzburg - avoid tolls and highways. Distance is 1884kms!!

The grading of roads differ between City Navigator and Garmap' Streetmaps. The new CN 2014.3 is even worse as a lot of roads has been degraded to unpaved roads.
In your setup of your preferences select Interstates first, before selecting Highways or Major Highways. Also do a recalculation everytime you change some preferences.
