Re: RHD Contributions
Fellow forumites, if you travel and find data that's incorrect or no longer relevant, PLEASE report it!
If you past a warning say ten times in a 3 month period and you see no "stoeltjie" or find it to be "bullsh*t", please report it, so that it can be removed or re positioned.
If the poor feedback stays as at present, the free for all ROAD HAZARD DATA download will be discontinued on the forum from my side, and only be made available by PM/email to those *** that really makes an effort to contribute to improve the data.
***Thanks to you all, much appreciated!

Re: RHD Contributions
Frans,I would like to contribute but the men in uniform warned me against the use of my cellphone while driving. The problem is, they do not always understand the difference between a cellphone and GPSr and therefor prevents me from logging stoeltjies or other information while driving. Seriously now, losing the RHD data will be a severe blow to us that travel for holiday reasons (very seldom) and relies heavily on the RHD data as a safety net.

Re: RHD Contributions
Hi all,
Quite honestly, I think that anything (cellphone/GPSr/etc) that is used in the presence of a uniformed officer, is automatically misconstrued as a "cellphone". I think they are trying to dissuade you from capturing the coordinates as a means to prevent the info from getting to other road users. I am actually surprised that they haven't tried to confiscate GPSr yet, under the pretense that these interfere with the operation of their speed trapping equipment. Ignorance is not always bliss and all that is needed is a savvy motorist who knows his rights, and if uniformed officials start taking chances, they may find themselves on the wrong side of the law they are supposed to uphold.

Re: RHD Contributions
In order to effectively capture Rhd data you have to have an active co-pilot to operate the gps.

Re: RHD Contributions
Perhaps this tale should be placed under jokes. I know it is off topic but being a true story need to be told. I have a very know it all friend who when he became a agent for a very well known brand of GPSr units got one as a demo. This was in the days prior to the street navigators. On the first trip with the GPS stuck to the windscreen he set the speed control of his Merc at 120kmh indicated on the GPS and proceded to his first meeting of the day.The next moment he was pulled off the road. When the traffic cop came up to his window he said to him "before you say something, do you see this little device, it is called a GPS, it monitors 12 satellites and display my speed actuate to .05kmh and seeing that I sett my spreed control using the device I can tell you that I was doing exactly 120kmh. The device records a log of my speed which I will percent in court to prove that I was doing that speed" The traffic cop said Sir that is a nifty little device and I can vouch for its accuracy, as a matter of fact my equipment showed you doing 120.5 kmh thanks for confirming that. This is a 80kmh zone.

Re: RHD Contributions
I wrote up a nice report of my unfortunate experience with one of the newer ASODs at Van Reenen Pass but the Site here says it is Spam and was denied.
Any comment as to where I went wrong? I was attaching a PDF of the section involved.
Thanks

Re: RHD Contributions
Would you please try to post it again. The newer of the anti-spam systems Darryl loaded took over the spam control from admin. Previously we had to vet the first 3 posts now the first 5 is done by the system. I see you have done 5 posts now so I am sure it will go through now. Apologies for that but unfortunately some spammers have become aware of our existence. I noticed a new member from one of the scandinavian countries, after registering trying to post and he spend about 30 min on the site but nothing came through so the system is working, maybe too affective. Any one experiencing problems posting please mail or PM Darryl or me and we can work something out.

Re: RHD Contributions
Well, one of the newest KZN ASODs is the 80km/h between Van Reenen and half way down van Reenen Pass (at the Pyramids) and I can attest to its accuracy (unfortunately
). BTW the 80km/h extends much further towards the bottom of the pass at Zandspruit but I don't THINK it's an ASOD
Their times and average speed line up very well with the Garmin Z 660. The Garmin says average is 91 and they say "Average Speed 91-94" so what can I say? I was also just looking at the altimeter readings and over portion of this ASOD the readings dropped from 1696m to 1450m so just a reminder to use your brakes most of the time going South to stay "legal"... Oh and I hear the sound of R250 escaping my pocket
I will try and show a map (a PDF file).
