Eventually I managed to acquire one of these little beasties for SWAMBO... and it seems to work just fine, right out of the box. A sizeable step up in useability from my previous Nuvi which only stabilised software-wise just before it died completely...
Here's a question, though...
How does one delete the trip logs? Heck, how does one stop the trip logs from recording?
This is purely from a security point of view. Having had a couple of nasty experiences lately, I've taken to carrying my own GPSr (Oregon 300) around with me whenever I leave the car. Unfortunately, SWAMBO and the kids aren't that conscientous about this kind of thing, and if the unit is stolen/misplaced and some miscreants get their sticky little hands on it, the fact that I have the local police station saved as "HOME" won't really matter. All they have to do is backtrack the latest trip log and they'll arrive at my front gate...
A bit of an oversight that, methinks.
Anybody got any ideas? I've tried everything, googling, youtubing, all to no avail. I cannot seem to delete trip logs without resetting the machine to factory spec...

Re: Nuvi 42LM trip logs
Hi Charles
I have a Nuvi 2 that I have been using for about 10 months now. Basically the same unit only a slightly larger screen. Unfortunately Garmin decided not to include an option to delete the trip logs, nor can you turn off recording it. As you pointed out in a country like ours that oversight can become a safety risk. You can only hide or display the log. What you can try however is to connect the unit to the computer and delete the logs that way but that is obviously not of any use for all practical purposes.

You can't delete it with the Computer either.
Master Reset is the only way, Bad Feature.
