Installing Mapsource on a new Laptop

#410

Post by Swannie »

:geek:
Some call me a stirrer, which I admit.
But I also learned the best way to get help, although it takes some time before I admit that I'm beated like the Sharks ( I'm Blue ...), is on this forum.
Ever since I got a new Dell Laptop, I'm unable to load my prefered Mapsource with my latest Garmap maps to show.
All NON Garmap maps shows on Basecamp, but non in Mapsource, not even the preloaded maps on the GPS.
The Latest Garmap map I have on my Nuvi 3790LT is 2012.2 SASS of wich I downloaded from the internet, so I have the downloaded file on a flachdisk,(not on DVD) but nothing seems to work even if I tried all the previous DVD disks. Non will show in Mapsource.
Next thing is to dump the laptop?

Oops

Swannie I take it that Mapsource is in stalled on the shiny new Dell. You need to have Garmap Sass 2012.2 installed on the laptop for Mapsource to be able to read it. On Window 7 the maps is in stalled in a folder C:>users>(yourname)>AppDat>Roaming>Garmin>Maps
This Folder is created by the system when you unlock the maps and you will find the Gma files with the unlock codes there as well. The maps are loaded in a folder SA Streetmaps 2012.gmap This is where mapsource finds the maps to read and display them. If You download the maps directly to the laptop it should install it there. I am not sure bu try to copy it from the flash disc to the laptop in the folder. Alternative is to repeat the download from garmap to the laptop this time. See my to screen shots for clarity

WE are a bit off topic here Swannie we will move these posts to the Mapping software forum at some stage. The easiest way to install it would be to use one of the older Garmap DVD I think about 2011or older. Install Training Centre first because for some reason it looks for a previous version of Mapsource to update and when it does not find it. it will reject the installation . When it detects Training Centre it installs without a hitch.
